Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are known for their stylish action thrillers, with women being at the heart of their tough stories. Their knack for blending dark humor with suspense is evident once again in their latest work.
Our Ready or Not 2 review suggests that it may not have the same bite, but it still manages to engage.
Plot details of Ready or Not 2: Here I Come (2026)
In 2019’s Ready or Not, Samara Weaving’s Grace was forced to survive a twisty game of Hide and Seek after getting married into an ultra-rich family. She needed to stay alive till dawn, waiting for the deadly ritual to end.
Ready or Not 2: Here I Come (2026)
Ready or Not 2 picks up after the events of the franchise starter, and Weaving is seen in the hospital, badly bruised after the brutal incidents of the survival game. She is joined by her estranged sister, Faith (Kathryn Newton), and captured again by the demonic family.
Back in the game, the sisters fight for their lives, with the high seat offering absolute control over everything in its grasp. Watch the chilling trailer here:
Actors’ performances in Ready or Not 2 (2026)
Samara Weaving outdid herself as Grace. She is known as a “scream queen” for a reason. Her amazing facial expressions and powerful fight scenes made her situation feel real, as if she were authentically trying to get out of the hellhole. Her badass persona elevated the sequel’s overall punch.
Kathryn Newton plays Faith, the estranged sister of Grace, who brings fresh energy and humor to the story. Her Gen Z demeanor gives the narrative a modern touch, keeping it fairly resonant with the contemporary audience. She serves as an emotional anchor to Grace’s survival game and proves to be a suitable counterpart for Weaving’s character.
Sarah Michelle as Ursula is a surprisingly manipulative but delightfully sharp addition to the film. She excels at her sinister game with her Buffy the Vampire homage vibes. Her character offers great tension in the second act as her menacing presence deepens the meaning of “stakes.”
Other members of the extended wealthy family also deliver solid performances, fully embracing the film’s demand for a ruthless power grab at the top. As more unhinged players enter the blood-soaked game, the chaos becomes increasingly entertaining, unfolding like a twisted game of chess within the dark, devilish world of this cult-like family.
What do critics add to Ready or Not 2 review?
With a slightly lower Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score than its opening chapter, Ready or Not 2 has a positive critics’ consensus that says,
“Tempting fate by picking up where it left off after an extended absence, Ready or Not 2 cheats the sequel curse thanks in large part to Samara Weaving’s ferocious commitment to the bloody bit.” [Source]
The critics are of the view that if you enjoyed the first part, the next is a rollercoaster. If you are a fan of leveled-up chaos, then the film is an enjoyable watch despite its flaws. Though the recall value is low and the “deaths are less original,” the feature still has enough power to keep us hooked throughout its runtime without ever feeling dull.
Fans’ reaction
Fans were ecstatic as they found the second movie “better than the original.” They loved the idea of having two hard-core female leads that amped up the revenge bar. The viewers even found the storyline good and the introduction of more family members with details of the rules impressive. Overall, it was a worthy sequel, the audience declares.
Is it worth watching?
The returning directors, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, collectively known as Radio Silence, did a fairly good job in expanding the mythology that they created in the first film and doubling the stakes with double the girl power in Ready or Not 2. So, yes, it is worth watching.
However, if you are looking for a substantial plot or surprises in the film, then the sequel might disappoint. It is welcomed with open arms by the fans, as the fight scenes are incredible, with some of the most deranged death scenes. At a certain point, we surely forget Grace’s kill count, and this is genuinely interesting.
Grace knows right from the start that she cannot put an end to this mayhem unless she outwits the maniacal, cultic, rich family who can do anything to retain their grip on world power. The element of world power might look absurdly exaggerated, but in order to keep the stakes higher than ever, the entertainment quotient in Grace’s killing is justified.
The Radio Silence pair stood true to their word when they said that Weaving’s character is both special and emotional as we learn more of Grace’s story. It was different from what we had seen in the previous installment, where she was only fighting for survival. More depth to the narrative of women refusing to play by the rules of the powerful, which involves all three main females: Weaving’s Grace, Kathryn’s Faith, and Sarah’s Ursula.
On the whole, the story attempts to stay close to the original’s and offer a natural evolution, which is a good thing; it is still predictable. The scale is undeniably larger, but the impact is lost somewhere.
