Margot Robbie in Ocean’s Eleven Prequel Sparks New Interest in Heist Franchise Revival

This year’s CinemaCon has been the most “happening” event of the year, as it has created an intense buzz around upcoming films slated for release in the years ahead. At CinemaCon 2026, Warner Bros. announced Margot Robbie in Ocean’s Eleven prequel along with Bradley Cooper.  

The film does not have a title yet, but its release date has already been set. Margot Robbie is also known to produce the film under her label LuckyChap. Carrie Solomon is also helping with writing the script.  

The Oceans franchise was launched by Warner Bros. in 2001 with some of the notable stars including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, and Matt Damon. They became an instant hit and were always associated with Soderbergh’s film trilogy, becoming the franchise’s icons. 

The 2001 film was a massive success due to its irresistible combination of a charismatic A-list ensemble cast, energetic direction, sharp humor, and witty high-stakes script. It reinvigorated the heist genre by incorporating “cool” vibes, dancing along with the retro Vegas vibe. It smoothly grossed $450 million worldwide.   

We don’t know yet whether any of them will be in the prequel or not. However, another separate project is led by George Clooney to revive the Ocean’s trilogy, titled Ocean’s 14. It is meant to reunite the original stars Julia Roberts, Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, and Don Cheadle, who might portray a group of aging criminals back in the heist game. 

Meanwhile, Bradley Cooper is set to write, direct, star in, and produce the Ocean’s Eleven prequel. He is presumed to be playing the father of the franchise’s original central character, Danny Ocean, who was played by George Clooney in 2001’s original. 

Ocean’s Eleven prequel is expected to begin production this year and be in theaters by next year’s summer.

Margot Robbie in Ocean’s Eleven prequel—What is the story about? 

Margot Robbie set the premise for the Ocean’s Eleven prequel, and she explained the narrative of the upcoming film at CinemaCon 2026. IGN reported her saying, 

“Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows — his parents. You’ll see them in their prime, and in our new movie, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.” [Source]

The story will revolve around Danny’s crafty parents and the crown jewel of the Formula One circuit. The story would focus on times long before Las Vegas casinos and modern-day cons that defined the original films. 

Danny’s parents might be depicted as highly skilled masterminds in their own right. They would not only be the background figures in Danny’s history but also the architects of the intelligence whose seed was already sown years ago in the family. 

Their charm and precision would later be inherited by Danny, a significant factor that would later define his legendary career. The dynamic between the two parents would imply a partnership built on trust, risk, and a shared obsession with pulling off impossible jobs.

We might get a glimpse of the kid version of Danny, who grew up watching his parents doing the heist tasks with inconceivable exactitude, adding emotional weight by tying his story directly. These are mere speculations that open doors for deeper storytelling, where the heist is not just about stealing the prize; it is about understanding the foundation of a family built on calculated risk.  

When is Ocean’s Eleven prequel releasing?

At CinemaCon 2026, Warner Bros. announced the release date for Ocean’s Eleven prequel to be June 25, 2027.
