The next Evil Dead instalment, officially titled Evil Dead Burn production wraps has been making waves over the internet. Horror fans are now craving for its first official teaser or trailer.
The production wrapped last week and is slated for release in summer 2026. The director promises the fans more diabolical adventures.
Plot details of Evil Dead Burn (2026)
Following the 2023 critically praised Evil Dead Rise, which was directed by Lee Cronin, the next installment is not typically a sequel, but it could have connections to Evil Dead Rise. Evil Dead Rise was a standalone sequel that had new characters.
Evil Dead Burn will have a connected universe and again feature new characters and storylines. The plot is still under wraps.
Nevertheless, if we make inferences, there is still a scene at the end of Evil Dead Rise that has stayed in our minds to date. It might be used for making connections within the same Evil Dead universe to its next part.
Evil Dead Rise’s ending and its connection with Evil Dead Burn
Evil Dead Rise revitalized the franchise with the same claustrophobic atmosphere but with the reinvigorated directorial efforts to make it full of hyper-violence for the new generation.
Evil Dead Rise started with the opening of the same Necronomicon, a fictional book of dark magic, that let Deadites on the loose. Deadites are demonic spirits that possess someone to torment the living.
In the final moments of Evil Dead Rise, Beth (played by Lily Sullivan) and Kassie (played by Nell Fisher) defeat the final gruesome form of hybrid Deadite that was made from the bodies of Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland), her children, Danny (Morgan Davies), and Bridget (Gabrielle Echols), and her neighbors.
However, seemingly to be the end, the scene rolls back to the beginning of the film, where another tenant in a building is seen infected by a Deadite. The possessed woman kills her sister and her boyfriend, confirming that the Deadite is still slipping through the cracks.
This ending could be used for the beginning of the next story. Still and all, these are mere speculations, and nothing is confirmed until an official synopsis from the filmmakers is generated.
Director’s vision for the film
According to Empire Online, Infested (2023) director, Sebastien Vanicek, teased by saying,
“I told the studio that I wanted to make a nasty movie, a movie that hurts, from which you come out tested. I’m going to put all the horror I have inside — it will be cathartic.” [Source]
He explained that this horror franchise is a “creative playground” for the filmmakers as they can come up with a plethora of raw and brutal ideas for the story.
Just like Infested, which has gained an impressive 95 percent Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score, Vanicek wants the same for his next film. He wants the audience to feel “physically drained” after coming out of the Evil Dead Burn theatrical show. He wants it to be deeply intense.
Even when Vanicek talked about casting, he explicitly mentioned Souheila Yacoub’s exceptional work as an actor. She is also a professional athlete, which will help bring the visceral presence to the character. It can be deduced that a body horror action sequence with grisly twisting and turning of the body might be required.
It gives the impression that all kinds of stunts are going to be a horrid sight, and this is exactly where Vanicek wants to have his creative play. One of the stars of Evil Dead Burn, Luciane Buchanan, revealed it as follows:
He wants it to resonate well with the rich and complex horror world that Sam Raimi has already built while staying true to what he does best in his creature feature genre, as seen in Infested.
On the other hand, Cronin has shown his excitement for the horror franchise and discussed the possibility of a crossover with Sam. He is of the view that the Evil Dead anthology could be taken forward with different directors helming the next chapter, as per Variety.
He is full of ideas and has even lined up the next four parts in his mind. Cronin felt that he did not want all of them to be sequels and that the Evil Dead Rise’s ending was just for the sake of “closing the loop back to the beginning.”
Now that Evil Dead Burn production wraps, when will the trailer drop?
Evil Dead Burn will serve as the sixth instalment of the film franchise. A very short teaser has been released on social media, but there is no official teaser or trailer for the film as yet.
The teaser was released on the Instagram account. Have a look:
This shot shows someone repeatedly slamming something to the body or its head, and the blood splattering around with hair-raising shrieks in the background. It gives a glimpse that the next part is going to be more ghastly, leaving it to the viewer’s wild imagination.
The film will be distributed by Warner Bros. and Sony Pictures, whereas Studiocanal will be responsible for its distribution in France and the UK.
