Lionsgate has lined up several movies for the running year, and one more has been added to the list. A teaser trailer of the comedy-action film has just been dropped, and we are excited.
Why? Because Good Fortune teaser trailer shows Keanu Reeves as an angel. Ringing bells for John Constantine?
Plot details of Good Fortune (2025)
Aziz Ansari, who is also a comedian by profession, is going to step into the feature film world with his directorial debut, Good Fortune. The film is about Gabriel, an inexpert angel, played by Keanu Reeves, who intervenes in worldly matters.
He enters the lives of a struggling gig worker, portrayed by Ansari himself, and a rich venture capitalist (Seth Rogen).
The trailer opens, showing Keanu Reeves standing on a rooftop and analyzing the matters of Los Angeles while having a chat with another angel, Martha (Sandra Oh). Reeves, aka Gabriel, tells her that he wants to guide people and whether there is any other way to have “more meaningful duties”.
Martha answers that he has to find a “lost soul”. It doesn’t take long for Gabriel to find one in Ansari. Ansari finds it funny that he now has a “budget guardian angel” who normally stops people from texting and driving but now wants to do something substantial.

Director’s vision for the film
Although Good Fortune is a comedy film but Aziz Ansari wanted to give a big lesson in his signature comedic style. The film seems to inculcate themes like ambition, wealth, being thankful for what we have, and the consequences of interfering with fate.
Since Gabriel switches lives with a wealthy man and a struggling person, the rich man is not happy. Ansari is perfectly okay with the life he has after becoming rich and does not want to switch back.
This was Gabriel’s plan to switch their lives and let them know how it feels to be in someone else’s shoes for once. Although Gabriel wanted to do good for both of them, there could be serious consequences.
And of course, since Gabriel is inept, his only aim is to ‘do good’ for both sides. Despite having killed hundreds of men in John Wick and strangling demons in John Constantine, we are up for watching the gauche angel when it is Keanu Reeves.
Aziz Ansari wanted to explore human desire for a better life with an infusion of luck and fate, but naturally, he wanted it to be funny as well as thought-provoking. And surprisingly, Reeves agreed to it very easily.
Ansari told that they both had to meet several times to get comfortable with each other, as per Men’s Journal. Ansari invited Reeves over to his home for Indian food. Ansari explained that Reeves is a private and mysterious person, but as soon as they started meeting, he knew Reeves was the perfect Gabriel.
Ansari said,
“I was like, ‘Hey man, we got to hang out a few times, so I’m not freaked out being around you. You know what I mean?’ So he was like, ‘I get what you mean.” [Source]
Is it true that the Good Fortune teaser trailer shows Keanu Reeves in a comedy role?
Yes, although Keanu Reeves appears to be a sad angel but the things he does for the two other protagonists have funny consequences. We can infer from the trailer that the funny situations might end up in some deep trouble, but again, as the director had in mind, he wants the film to be thought-provoking.
The only thing we know about Seth Rogen’s role is that he is a rich man. The final trailer now sheds more light on how the switching of lives will affect them and force them to think about the consequences. And how did Keanu Reeves get his wings so small? It can only be revealed once we get to see the film.
