The chaotic, slapstick science fiction shows the time traveler Sam Rockwell, who is desperate to save the world from world-ending AI, as he has his personal reasons too. The film navigates the surreal, dangerous obstacles across Los Angeles, where he arrives at a diner to recruit a team, including Juno Temple, Zazie Beetz, Michael Pena, Haley Lu Richardson, and many more.

Experience the madness in the trailer here:

Actors’ performances in Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die (2026)

Sam Rockwell delivered an explosive performance in the film. It was his 117th try to get back to Earth and stop the people from indulging in life-threatening activities. He was a humorous, cautious, and seemingly wary leader of a group that he thought would help save the world. He had high energy and brought a signature unpredictability to the film, as we saw in other scenes of the film.

Juno Temple brings the emotional connection to the film, which was desperately needed. With her fragility, she brings uniformity to her character that was much needed to balance the messy dystopian tone.

Haley Lu Richardson shows her bold, fearless side, serving as the film’s secret weapon. With a compelling emotional presence, she felt like the center holding the story in place.

Michael Pena is known for blending intense dramatic performances with comedic timing, and this film made use of his skills suitably. However, his presence in the film was fairly minimal. I wanted to see more of him, especially after seeing a purportedly timid Mark who might have evolved into a true heroic version of himself, based on the needs of the time.

What I believe about Zazie Beetz is that she could have added so much more to the film, but her role was limited. As she brought grace with intensity in They Will Kill You (2025), her abilities remained confined in this one.

What do critics add to Good Luck Have Fun Don’t Die review?

The critics’ consensus on Rotten Tomatoes shows a positive reception from the critics, who are of the view that

“A gleeful high-concept comedy with a serious message at its core, Good Luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die lets Sam Rockwell rip with thrilling results while marking a very welcome return of director Gore Verbinski in peak form.” [Source]

The critics believe that the film does not pretend to be a perfect film, as the story inherits disorder and mayhem at its core. The unsettling relevance of the film sometimes makes its creepy message more philosophical, which shines with its incredible creativity.

Fans’ reaction

Fans enjoyed the director’s vision and his idea of creativity. The unfiltered message was able to catch the viewers right from the beginning without wasting any time. Good story and funny instances in the film kept them entertained, and the fans are willing to watch it again if given a chance.

Is it worth watching?

Overall, the film is a great one-time watch, as it is messy, ridiculous, and sometimes too loud, but it is a bold take on the current AI happenings around the world that might, at one point, take us to the outrageous consequences at worst.

Though the tumultuous sci-fi ride is fun, it carries a thought-provoking message. The warnings about the impending apocalypse of social media and the heartfelt cry of frustration in the modern world demand attention. Humans have become machines, and the algorithm-driven culture is becoming hard to ignore. The film aims to ask blunt questions: will we let AI take over us? Is there no stop to it? Are we so helpless?

Sometimes the commentary feels over-the-top, but possibly this is what Gore Verbinski wanted it to be. The director came back after a long hiatus of 10 years and has always been keen on making high-concept genre stories. A Cure For Wellness (2016) had a powerful blow due to its prevailing themes of medical corruption, social decay, greed, self-indulgent ambitions, and society’s toxicity.

The same is evident in Good Luck, Have Fun, as the sci-fi comedy has a wild parable underneath its layers of the immediate dangers of the tech-centric world. The unchecked ambitions behind technological advancements have pulled humankind into a never-ending spiral.

Doomscrolling, screen addiction, and loss of human interaction have profound effects on both body and mind. Verbinski vividly illustrates an AI wave capable of turning people into zombie-like figures, resulting in a strikingly impactful film.

The film tried hard to be emotional, but the tone didn’t seem right. It could be possibly due to an abrupt shift to chaotic humor or high AI spectacle, making it difficult for the audience to connect emotionally.
