John Wick 5 Confirmed by Lionsgate as Next Chapter Gets a Go-Ahead From The Executive

The excitement was unseizable after the first John Wick film debuted in 2014. The hitman-centric series earned a respect that no other Keanu Reeves saga has been able to do to date. 

Undoubtedly, seeing love from the fans, the John Wick franchise kept expanding to give us bigger and bloodier action. And good news! John Wick 5 confirmed by Lionsgate after Ballerina, a John Wick spinoff, set to hit theatres on June 6, 2025. 

Jenefer Brown gives details about John Wick 5

Jenefer Brown, EVP and Head of Global Products and Experiences at Lionsgate, confirmed the sequel is in the early development stages. He told Comic Book,

“This world continues to grow and expand in incredible ways…Of course, we’ve announced we’re working on a fifth John Wick film. I think there are more spinoffs to come, a TV series, video game.” [Source]

She emphasized that John Wick MAY BE dead, but we have to wait and see what is actually in store when John Wick 5 comes out. The John Wick experience is sure to take us back to the stylish, action-packed world of the celebrated assassin that was high on cinematic storytelling, guaranteed to keep our adrenaline high till the end.

Director’s take on John Wick 5

According to The Hollywood Reporter, John Wick films director Chad Stahelski was ecstatic that people wanted more of John Wick, which led to the making of John Wick 5, and “it’s not just a cash grab”. He said,

“We want more,’ and it’s not just a cash grab. It’s legitimately, the audience wants more.” [Source]

He candidly added that if he and Keanu were to sit in a bar somewhere in Japan to enjoy some whiskey and talk about the prospects of having another John Wick film, they would just shoo away the idea, thinking ‘we’re over it’. But again, all of a sudden, they both might be like, ‘Hey, I got an idea’. 

What does Ballerina mean for John Wick 5?

After the conclusion of John Wick 4, fans were sure that they wouldn’t be able to see Wick on screens ever again since his death made a clear statement. But this is not the case.

Ballerina’s trailer has been released and it shows a bit of John Wick’s appearance with another question: How does Lance Reddick’s cameo fit in Ballerina’s trailer? Ballerina (2025) will take place between the events of John Wick 3 and John Wick 4, which would help understand Lance Reddick’s and Keanu Reeve’s appearances in the story, as per Radio Times.

Keanu Reeves himself believed the character was dead in the previous part, but whether we will be able to see him again in John Wick 5, thank God, we’ve finally got an update about it.

Just Jared cited that Keanu Reeves is certain about John Wick’s death. However, when asked about the possibility of returning as him, he said that his “knees right now are saying ‘I can’t do another John Wick’,” and his heart is not sure whether the 60-year-old actor can do another John Wick or not. 

But again, Ballerina’s trailer has validated that he would be seen as John Wick for a while in the movie. But guess what? The news just came in right from CinemaCon, an official gathering of cinema owners, that Keanu Reeves is going to reprise his John Wick role in the fifth installment, via Lionsgate. Yippee!

The films have already made progress in their gross earnings with each sequel opening. For John Wick 5 to be better than that, it needs, of course, Keanu Reeves because he is the iconic titular character. Who would want to see a John Wick without an ACTUAL John Wick?

Also, it would need a stronger supporting cast with a level-up for the action scenes. It is expected that John Wick’s character strength is elevated with a strong supporting cast as the story revolves around the main character but with a strong presence of other roles on the screen.   

Meanwhile, what is the ‘John Wick Experience’?

To amplify John Wick‘s experience, an immersive live-action gameplay just opened at Area 15, The Continental Hotel. Las Vegas Review Journal stated that it is a setting of a new John Wick experience that has a dynamic blend of escape room puzzlery, with specific missions and a unique way of interacting with characters from the films. 

The 12,000-foot area of attraction includes more than a dozen theme rooms, two bars, and a retail shop- all related to the John Wick world. The franchise director Chad Stahelski and his team from 87 Eleven also collaborated on the project. 

The purpose is to give a full John Wick cinematic experience, brought to you by Egan Productions, whose founder and owner, Jason Egan has previously built movie-themed attractions for Official Saw Escape, Escape Blair Witch, and Escape It.
