Zootopia (2016) earned $1 billion globally and even won an Oscar for the best animated feature film. There is an obvious anticipation for Zootopia 2 this time, where the prequels have an evident pressure to be better than their predecessors.
Disney has a number of films listed for this year’s release, one by one, such as Elio, Lilo and Stitch live-action remake, and the upcoming Tron: Ares. Will the Zootopia 2 teaser meet our expectations?
Plot details of Zootopia 2
The official synopsis of the film states that Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (voiced by Jason Bateman) are on another adventure when a mysterious reptile, Gary the snake, arrives in Zootopia.
To be precise, the synopsis cites it as turning “the mammal metropolis upside down”. Judy and Nick go to other parts of the town to solve the mystery, and they encounter a seemingly baddie of the story.
The next part of the trailer gives quick glimpses of all the rest of the characters of the film, some of whom are old ones. We have a new character, Nibbles, the beaver, and Dr. Fuzzby, the therapist, voiced by Fortune Feimster and Quinta Brunson, respectively.

What does the Zootopia 2 teaser show?
The teaser opens with a trio of hamsters playing an electric keyboard. Judy, Nick, and Gary are noticed in a continuous chase sequence, passing through different scenes. Zootopia’s police force, the rhinos, are after them.
Then, they come face to face with a villainous appearance, a hooded figure with glowing eyes, who seems to be the story’s antagonist.
The film’s new addition is Gary, the snake, voiced by Ke Huy Quan, who recently joined the cast. Ke Huy Quan is from Everything, Everywhere All At Once (2022), who played the metaverse husband in the film.
The snake seems to have a prominent role in the film as he is seen everywhere with the two main leads. This snake is not a frightening one, but at one instance, you might have noted, he appears timid in front of the glowing eyes villain.
The snakes are meant to be threatening, with an evil glance and their dreadful hiss. However, this one has fangs, but not that intimidating. He seems unique and charismatic, which creates new potential for the film.
Also, as the synopsis mentioned that the mammal world will be seriously affected by the introduction of the snake, it implies that Zootopia’s themes may involve bias and tolerance, or even adjustments. Solving the mystery alongside such themes would be an exciting watch. Notably, Zootopia had no reptiles, whereas part two is all about the new main character, a snake, a reptile.
One more assumption that comes to our minds is that with the advent of the snake, we might be exposed to the other animals world. For example, fish and bugs have their separate Zootopia world, but with the snake in the scene now, the consumption of this world by predators like the snake would be a possibility.
If mammals evolved to create a city, the lizards, snakes, and other creatures might come together to ally, possibly?
Shakira will also be seen reprising her role as the singer Gazelle. Shakira herself revealed the news at last year’s Brazil expo that Gazelle is coming back with a new look and new song, as per Variety.
Directors’ vision for the film

The director, Jared Bush, indicated that the film might reveal to us great mysteries beyond in the form of Judy and Nick’s adventure. He said,
“Whether it’s the marshes of semi-aquatic mammals, the vast desert dunes, or even greater mysteries beyond, our heroes, Judy and Nick, will meet a lot of new friends and discover even more about the world, themselves, and a brand-new snake in town.” [Source]
Byron Howard corroborated the fact that Shakira’s song will be present in the film with the opening act of Gazelle. It is the original song “ZUTU” that is crafted by the finest lemming techno group, LEMEENS. The song is meant to mark the occasion of the comeback of the Zootopia world.
