The X-Men series ran from 2000 to 2019 across 13 films that featured Patrick Stewart, Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Ian McKellen, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, and many others. The new X-Men film will be the first to be produced under the Marvel Studios banner after Disney acquired Fox in 2019.
According to Forbes, the full new X-Men cast was revealed at D23, where Kevin Feige brought all the new characters on stage one by one. The new X-Men film will be directed by Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier to be released in 2028.
New X-Men cast 2026 so far
Samara Weaving as Emma Frost

Two weeks ago, Samara Weaving was already confirmed to be cast as the new Emma Frost in the X-Men reboot. Also known as the White Queen, she is one of the most complex mutants with razor-sharp wit and an intimidating presence. Weaving seems to be the best choice for an overpowering screen presence, as she has portrayed her strength in both Ready or Not films.
Sadie Sink as Jean Grey

Sadie Sink’s role was the most mysterious one before the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026). She debuted as Jean Grey and was lauded for her performance in balancing immense telepathic power with raw emotional vulnerability. The fresh, grounded take on the iconic mutant was loved by the audience and critics equally. Her independent reiteration of Jean Grey, with micro expressions, adds to the antiheroic edge while sharing space with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker.
Kit Connor as Scott Summers/Cyclops
Kit Connor is best known for Warfare (2025) and Little Joe (2019). Playing X-Men’s field leader, Scott Summers, aka Cyclops, means that his optic blasts will only be one part of the character he needs to bring to life. Cyclops is traditionally portrayed as a disciplined, strategic, and highly responsible member. Connor’s presence will bring the youthful side of Scott to life, giving prominence to the MCU’s new generation of mutants.
Christopher Abbott as Professor X/Charles Xavier
The telepathic founder of the X-Men will be played by Christopher Abbott (It Comes at Night, Possessor). Audiences might have to keep their images of James McAvoy and Patrick Stewart’s Xaviers aside, as the complex character would be reinvigorated by this 40-year-old actor.
Abbott’s previous performances lean into characters dealing with internal conflict, uncertainty, or darker emotional territory. And though Stewart’s Xavier carried an almost statesman-like authority and McAvoy showed a younger, more emotionally vulnerable Xavier, Abbott might delve into a psychologically uneasy role, more like a flawed individual and less like an untouchable mentor.
Inde Navarrette as Rogue
Inde Navarrette plays Rogue, the Southern mutant whose power to absorb others’ abilities and memories through skin contact means she cannot touch another person without harm. The Obsession breakthrough star was initially eyeing the role of Mystique, but no one has been announced for that role yet.
Seeing her perform incredibly in Obsession, we know that Navarrette can play multiple emotional states within the same character. Rogue has contradictory layers, and the actress’s ability could be fully translated to Rogue. The actress used her face, body, voice, and movement to communicate Nikki’s psychological transformation, which is probably the biggest advantage for the role of Rogue. Imagine Rogue touching someone and suddenly absorbing their memories.
Maya Boyd as Storm
Maya Boyd (Deadbeat) joins as Ororo Munroe, aka Storm. She is an Omega-level weather manipulator who has led the X-Men and, at various times, ruled the nation of Wakanda in the comics. Previously, the role was played by Halle Berry in four X-Men movies, and now, the new name brings the opportunity to reimagine Storm with a fresh combination of power, grace, vulnerability, and leadership.
Though Halle’s Storm was one of the defining faces of the original X-Men films, Maya could make the character feel younger and more emotionally open, as young people normally are. It would be exciting to watch Storm being gentle and then becoming a weather powerhouse when her eyes harden and her breathing changes.
Adam Driver as Mister Sinister
Adam Driver (Logan Lucky, The Report) will play the “sinister” version of Nathaniel Essex, aka Mister Sinister. He will be the creepy scientist who is obsessed with mutants. He lived during the Victorian era and became fascinated by genetics, particularly how mutations could make people more powerful. He eventually experimented on himself and became immortal, meaning he doesn’t age normally.
Driver has a very controlled screen presence, and that would be perfect for Mister Sinister. He could speak calmly while discussing something truly terrifying. Explaining scientific processes that accelerate evolutionary processes in an absolutely unsettling way, coming from a calm presence like Driver’s, would be a treat.
On the other hand, his anger, insecurity, vulnerability, and arrogance seen in the Kylo Ren character from Star Wars could come in handy. Sinister could even embody a completely different version.
Why is it a gamble?
The X-Men has a long cinematic history, beginning with the 2000 film and continuing through multiple generations of characters. People have started associating certain actors with certain characters, such as Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and Ian McKellen as Magneto.
Marvel now has to convince the audience that the new cast deserves the same level of attachment, which might be a challenge. The audience might be skeptical of an unknown property, as they already have expectations. Sadie Sink has already done a phenomenal job as Jean Grey in Brand New Day. The future of the X-Men franchise depends on their interpretations of these characters.
The deliberate casting of the younger generation could raise some eyebrows since finding the right balance between nostalgia and reinvention is a creative gamble. It shouldn’t be another superhero team that exists merely to connect Avengers movies. The new X-Men need to have their own identities while also making sense to the MCU.
When is the new X-Men film releasing?
The film is scheduled for release on May 5, 2028.
