The Oscar winner is back with a possible banger! Michael B Jordan’s new movie is entirely different from Ryan Coogler’s Sinners (2025), which was the prime buzz of the Oscars last year.
The Thomas Crown Affair trailer has been released after Jordan’s one-year break from acting. Following his directorial debut in 2023 with Creed III, The Thomas Crown Affair will be his second venture, a remake of the classic crime thriller of the same name, which has already been adapted twice (1968 and 1999).
Drew Pearce and Jason Hall write Jordan’s remake of The Thomas Crown Affair. Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo are producing for Outlier Society, with Charles Roven for Atlas Entertainment. The list of producers also includes Patrick McCormick and Toberoff Productions’ Marc Toberoff. Alan Turstman, writer of the original film, serves as the executive producer.
Plot details of The Thomas Crown Affair (2027)
As Thomas Crown, Jordan plays the titular billionaire going through a series of high-octane art heists, but the levels of risk involved excite him. He is pursued by an insurance investigator, played by Adria Arjona, who goes on to be romantically involved with him.
While on the side, an insidious supervillain (Kenneth Branagh) is threatening to take Crown down. Will Crown return the precious stolen artifacts to their rightful owners?

Director’s vision for the film
According to Deadline, Jordan did not shy away from admitting that he had been wanting to make this film for a really long time. He clarified that it is neither a reboot nor a remake. It is an entirely new reimagination, which he is really ecstatic about. He even cared about the movie and its title.
“I didn’t want a reboot. I wanted a reimagination. The first two films were about rich white guys stealing for fun. That doesn’t land today…Ours is more personal. The stakes are higher. Still got the fashion, romance.” [Source]
Even on his Instagram post, Jordan mentioned that when he first saw Steve McQueen’s 1968 and Pierce Brosnan’s 1999 versions of the films, he understood them in his own way. He knew that Thomas Crown’s character is about one thing: “a man who moves through the world on his own terms, plays his own rules, and wants something nobody thinks he should have.”
He wanted to bring his own reimagination of the character in modern times and hoped that would mean something to the audience. This time, his mission is personal, and the stakes are higher. With Jordan in the director’s chair, knowing that his Creed III received some impressive critics’ scores, it would be fascinating to watch how things work out for this crime thriller.
How does The Thomas Crown Affair trailer suggest this remake will be different from previous versions?
As the director himself has emphasized, it wouldn’t be just another remake. The trailer corroborates the very element of the film, as the fresh visual style, updated heist sequences, and Jordan’s own interpretation of Thomas Crown add spice to the 1968 and 1999 versions.
The new film will be different since Jordan stars and directs. His charisma and confidence fit the billionaire art thief aesthetics, and the trailer sells his vision immediately. Accompanied by fashion, luxury locations, music, and high-end action, the cat-and-mouse dynamic would be full of thrills that the audience has loved for years, such as in James Bond films.
With Jordan’s own heart and soul in the project, the film seems to be his most ambitious project yet. Jordan is leading the film both in front and behind the camera. He has loved the two Thomas Crown versions previously and wants to recreate what he has thought of the film for contemporary cinephiles and give them a reason to watch it on cinema screens.
Verily, the poster also mentions it is to be shown in IMAX and that the film encompasses revenge, which is a piece of art. Does this give you enough reason to head to theaters upon its release?
