DC comics have been a rave as the iconic superheroes are loved by the fans for decades. They want to see more of them, and this is the exact fandom that DC Studios is capitalizing on.
DC Studios under James Gunn and Peter Safran want their superheroes to be more human and inherit the emotional depth in their characters, as was confirmed by Gunn when he explained his approach after a sneak peek trailer release for Superman.
Batman and Robin in The Brave and the Bold will be a story to remember, as James Gunn has just teased. The long-awaited update is finally here, as the new DC verse is getting a reboot from both new co-heads.
What can we expect from Batman and Robin in The Brave and the Bold?
The Brave and the Bold will be a father-son story of Batman and Robin, as cited by James Gunn. It will take inspiration from writer Grant Morrison and artist Andy Kubert’s version of Batman’s story named “Batman and Son” (2006).
The story revolves around Bruce Wayne when he comes to know that he has a son with Talia al Ghul, the daughter of Ra’s al Ghul.
On the other hand, Damian Wayne is a murderous teen raised by assassins and has an aggressive streak.
The Brave and the Bold will be in the main DC world, while Matt Reeves’ Batman, played by Robert Pattinson, will be in DC’s Elseworlds. It will be in the Matt-verse that is coming with the Batman trilogy.
The Batman II is in the making, still untitled, as it is rumored that it will drop “part 2” from its title and have a proper tagline to support it.
Has the production of The Brave and the Bold begun?
James Gunn shared the news that The Brave and the Bold will soon be in the production phase. No release date has been set as “there is no set timeline for anything”, Comic Book Resource quoted Gunn.
He explained that there needs to be a solid screenplay before the film actually gets into the running production phase. And for that, a writer is yet to be confirmed. One or two writers are in the talks, but no confirmations have been made.
And don’t worry. It is already been confirmed that Andy Muschietti, the It director, has been announced as the director of The Brave and the Bold. The deal was struck with Andy after Flash’s release when Gunn and Safran were thrilled that Flash was a funny, emotional, and exciting film that showed how deeply Andy had connected the superhero aura with this world. Both the co-heads reassured,
“Andy’s affinity and passion for these characters and this world just resonates through every frame. So, when it came time to find a director for The Brave and the Bold, there was really only one choice. Luckily, Andy said yes.” [Source]
Despite Flash being a flop, Gunn and Safran think that Andy has experience with the Bat-family as incarnations of a cowled vigilante like Batman was featured in the flick.
Is the story of The Brave and the Bold in works?
No, as the writer for the film is not finalized yet, the production cannot start before that. Gunn said that they are not in a hurry. Until he is satisfied with a perfect story that gets a green light, they are not taking any steps.
He said,
“Until we have a screenplay that I’m totally happy with, that movie is not going to get made, no matter what it is.” [Source]
He believes the only thing that matters the most at this point is the story. Whichever he and his team feel is worth showing to the world, they will proceed with the production. He knows that it shouldn’t be a DCU mill that keeps producing content just for the sake of pleasing the viewers.
Fans are sensitive about their superheroes and even the villains of the DC world. The villains are equally compelling, like Joker, Darkseid, Lex Luther, etc. They might be chaotic and terrifying, but interestingly fascinating. They keep the story alive and make the hero look stronger than ever.
James Gunn might want to take it slow as Superman’s release is right around the corner, and he needs to be careful of the audience’s response. The trailer of the new Superman and the new hero received mixed reactions, therefore, Gunn might have to think twice before anything is decided for his next project.
Gunn has shown a particular fondness for this character and promises to deliver something of high standards. There are whispers in the air that the film might be postponed, possibly due to this reason, and that there might be another DCU film before The Brave and the Bold has the cameras rolling.
Has casting been done for The Brave and the Bold?
No casting for the film has been unveiled for the Damian Wayne Batman movie to date. However, a number of actors have been trying their luck to play James Gunn’s DCU Batman, such as Jake Gyllenhaal, Winston Duke, Alan Ritchson, and Brandon Sklenar.
