The Spierig Brothers take the fear of heights to another extreme in the 2022 Fall sequel, where the perilous mountain trail pushes the limits of human endurance. But the sequel struggles to reach the same heights.

Our Fall 2 Deadpoint 2026 review will explore its vertigo-fuelled suspense, the cast’s performance, its handling of grief and trauma, and why its pulse-pounding survival sequences cannot compensate for a story that struggles to make its characters’ decisions convincing.

Plot details of Fall 2: Deadpoint (2026)

Fall 2 follows a grieving sister, Jax Hunter (played by Harriet Slater), and her friend Luce (Arsema Thomas) as they become trapped on a high-altitude cliffside in Thailand. They also get caught in a dangerous drug-smuggling plot while walking on a death-dealing 4,000-foot-high plank trail.

Actors’ performances in Fall 2: Deadpoint (2026)

Harriet Slater’s Jax and Arsema Thomas’s Luce were two notable performances in the film. Though Tom Brittney’s Jon Platt played a prominent role, he failed to leave a lasting mark.

Slater’s Jax is a grieving and timid sister of Shiloh (from the first film) whose role demanded physical and emotional investment. She is brave at times, especially when she volunteered to get the bag hanging on a far-away iron bar to make contact with land in order to gain help. She balanced the emotional themes and survivor’s guilt with intense physical sequences nicely, which showed her commitment to the role.

Arsema Thomas is the fearless friend of Shiloh Hunter (Virginia Gardener), who dies in the first film, and was also Jax’s sister. Their character dynamics were good but not as deep as the life-threatening trail required. Luce’s character seemed layered but not for long. Thomas’s physical performance, however, deserves credit. She underwent training in rock-climbing mechanics alongside Harriet Slater.

Tom Britteny was the tour guide for these two girls, and with his relatively limited screen presence, deeper character development was missing. In interviews, Brittney admitted to being afraid of heights, revealing that practicing on elevated platforms around 50 feet above the ground made the experience genuinely terrifying. That real-life fear adds a degree of authenticity to his performance, but despite contributing to the on-screen tension, his character lacks the depth and emotional connection needed to leave a lasting impression.

What do critics add to Fall 2 Deadpoint 2026 review?

The critics aren’t impressed with Fall 2 much, as the consensus says:

“The bottom doesn’t completely fall out of Deadpoint thanks to the Spierig Brothers’ penchant for sweat-inducing tension, but this sequel ups the stakes without proportionately scaling its characters’ intelligence.” [Source]

Fans’ reaction

Fans largely share the critics’ sentiments, with many questioning why the female lead’s choice of putting herself in danger. While some viewers praised the film’s panic-inducing sequences, particularly the experience of watching them on a big screen, others felt the sequel failed to justify its existence, describing it as “pointless” overall.

Is it worth watching?

For me, it is a ridiculous idea altogether to go on a tightrope, a high-altitude mountain plank walk, to honor your late sister’s memory. Why would someone want to die in honoring someone who died from the same reasons? I understand that this was also to confront her trauma, as she was afraid of heights and was traumatized by her sister’s prank on a previous skydiving trip when she faked passing out mid-air.

My question again is, why would she willingly confront her fears and trauma in a situation where passing out from the height could lead to a potentially fatal fall? It is like deliberately playing with fire, which is hilariously preposterous on its own. Hence, the overall story made no sense to me, failing to impress me on the whole.

Although Fall 2 leans heavily on grief and trauma to create an emotional connection with the audience, its attempt to evoke genuine sympathy never quite landed. I feel nothing for the protagonists and couldn’t empathize with their emotional struggles. The constant focus on grief and trauma felt forced and couldn’t give enough depth or authentic emotions.

The vertigo-triggering suspense was nerve-racking, turning the fear of losing one’s grip into a visceral experience. The use of characters’ precarious positions and the dizzying heights added to the unbreakable sense of danger, which I could feel through the screen.

What we liked

  • Nail-biting height-driven tension
  • Committed physical performances
  • Effective height-induced tension

What could be better

  • Questionable character decisions
  • Forced emotional depth
  • Underdeveloped characters
  • An unconvincing story
