2025 has been an outstanding year for entertainment. With record-breaking blockbusters and critically acclaimed films, audiences were captivated by both big and small screen releases throughout the year.
From fresh December releases to festive Christmas treasures, Movie Insiderz brings you a curated guide on what to watch this December before 2025 comes to a close.
What to Watch This December for a Perfect Year-End Movie Marathon
Oh. What. Fun (December 3)
This film is full of Christmas spirit, following a super-mom, Claire Clauster (played by Michelle Pfeiffer), whose kids have forgotten her on Christmas.
In an attempt to discover herself, she impulsively decides to drive from Houston to California for a “Best Holiday Mom” contest. She picks up her slacker son (Dominic Sessa) and has to deal with great family drama, making it a chaotic but fun-filled holiday movie.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw (December 5)
This animated feature film is based on a kids’ book of the same name. Greg Heffley (voiced by Aaron Harris) needs to impress Holly Hills at an upcoming talent show.
Frustrated with Greg’s laziness, his father Frank (Chris Diamantopoulos) warns that military school is his next stop. Hoping to escape that fate, Greg takes shortcuts to earn Boy Scout badges, but his plan backfires spectacularly on a chaotic father-son camping trip.
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2- FNAF 2 (December 5)
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 resumes one year after the first instalment, where Mike (Josh Hutcherson) and Abby (Piper Rubio) were trying to live normally, but Abby misses her animatronic friends.
To reconnect with her friends, Abby runs away, only to find the true origins of Freddy’s, along with the horror hidden underneath for decades.
Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (December 12 on Netflix)
Another case for a Southern crime detective, Benoit Blanc (Daniel Craig), shows up, who has a 100-percent success rate. But this one seems impossible.
The movie is a standalone sequel to Glass Onion (2022), but overall, the third installment in the Knives Out film series, also known as Knives Out 3.
Already sitting at an impressive 92 percent Rotten Tomatoes critics’ rating, the film has gained a review from Empire Online that says,
“Gothic, iconoclastic, engrossing, slyly excoriating of modern-day America and very funny to boot, it’s another solidly satisfying whodunnit from Benny B.” [Source]
The Housemaid (December 19)
Based on Frieda McFadden’s 2022 novel of the same name, The Housemaid follows two prominent women: Millie (Sydney Sweeney) and Nina (Amanda Seyfried).
She’s desperate for a job and manages to get one at Nina’s luxurious house. However, there’s always a cost to good things. Deep secrets are urging to be uncovered despite the gardener, Enzo’s (Michele Morrone) warnings. With suspense at every turn, The Housemaid shows that even a dream job can come with deadly consequences.
Avatar: Fire and Ash (December 19)
Avatar: Fire and Ash focuses on Jake (voiced by Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) as they grieve the loss of their son, Neteyam.
Meanwhile, they have to encounter a new aggressive tribe, Na’vi, the Ash people, led by their fiery leader Varang (Oona Chaplin). A new conflict escalates between the people of water, the Pandora, and the fire people, which intends to take us on an intensely emotional journey.
SpongeBob SquarePants: Search for SquarePants (December 19)
Another animated feature film releasing just before Christmas is a seafaring adventure in which SpongeBob tries to prove his bravery to Mr. Krabs. He joins the Flying Dutchman, a quest to the ocean’s deepest abyss with new mysteries and challenges.
The real dare is to follow the legendary pirate ghost ship, venturing deep into the unknown and uncovering secrets, exploring what it truly means to be courageous.
Goodbye June (December 24 on Netflix)
Goodbye June is the story of four siblings tied in a dysfunctional family relationship, but they are reunited due to their mother’s sudden health crisis.
They try to keep their mother happy during her last days while in the process of mending their own wounded relationships. The potential family loss with naturalistic storytelling is what Kate Winslet’s directorial debut is aiming at.
Marty Supreme (December 25)
Marty Supreme is not a true story but a film inspired by real-life table tennis champion Marty Reisman. Reisman was a prominent sports figure who revolutionized the game with his flashy and theatrical style of play.
In the film, Marty Mauser (Timothee Chalamet) portrays the ping pong player, set in the 1950s, where he barely met his end by working at a NYC store. He made his name in the sports arena by winning at the British Open and then rising to the World Championship in Tokyo.
It is not a typical sports movie but a character study surrounded by themes of business, national identity, the American Dream, and questions of class, privilege, and power.
Anaconda (December 25)
Anaconda (2025) is the comic reboot of the classic 1997 creature feature film. It highlights two friends, Griff (Paul Rudd) and Doug (Jack Black).
They have a passion to remake their childhood favorite film of Anacondas, but since they are unprepared amateurs, things get worse when the real anaconda crashes their movie remake project.
