Jaafar Jackson Joins Supermax, and We Know Who He Might Be Playing

Jaafar Jackson’s next career move could be most intriguing, exciting, and thrilling yet. What if he plays a villain in a film that would be entirely opposite to what he played in this year’s biggest musical biopic, Michael? No confirmation for his next role has been made, but here is our reasoning for his next likely role. 

According to Entertainment Weekly, Jaafar Jackson joins Supermax and stars opposite Will Smith in David Gordon Green’s (Joe, Stronger) action thriller. Will Smith and AnnaSophia Robb (I Play Rocky) were earlier announced to play two FBI agents investigating a murder inside a notorious maximum security prison. 

The film will be distributed by Amazon MGM Studios and Miramax. The producers include Alex Heineman as Andrew Rona of The Picture Company Smith and Adam Fishbach for Westbrook. Jonathan Glickman, Alexandra Loewy, Thom Zadra, Spencer Ela, Weil and Rosen are executive producers, while Natalie Weil is associate producing.

Jaafar Jackson joins Supermax: Who’s he playing?

Jaafar Jackson became famous for his mind-blowing performance in his uncle’s biopic, Michael (2026). He is the son of Michael Jackson’s older brother, who pulled off some of the famed dance steps, including the Moonwalk, the Robot, the Spin, and the Toe Stand.

While we wait for Michael 2, as Lionsgate is eyeing the sequel for a 2027 shoot, Jackson would get time to play a part in the film as someone he isn’t related to. Though Jackson has set himself up as one of the biggest debut stars of 2026, and that too because of his uncle, Supermax will give him a chance to prove his acting skills otherwise.  

It would be an excellent move if Jaafar Jackson played the villain in Supermax, though his youthful-sounding voice that became Michael’s biopic’s true identity could be a contrast; this could also prove to be his strength for this role. 

While audiences often associate villains with deep, gravelly tones, making some of the memorable antagonists frightening, Jaafar’s childlike, soft voice could prove a powerful weapon for him, as he might sound calm, gentle, and emotionally controlled as a villain. This could announce him as an intimidating presence, a character that could appear approachable or harmless on the outside but has darker intentions that appear more unsettling when they become evident. 

A calm delivery could make his villain’s psychological manipulation easier. The story indicates that a “near impossible” murder took place in one of the most secure prisons, which implies that Jaafar’s villain could be more calculating and unpredictable; someone who knows how to maintain composure rather than shouting or displaying rage. 

Jaafar imitated his uncle’s distinctive mannerisms in Michael, but transitioning to playing a villain in Supermax could become one of his biggest strengths in playing diverse roles. Recreating Michael Jackson’s body language with graceful posture, fluid movements, expressive hand gestures, and a measured walk is the exact opposite of what he might do as Supermax’s villain.

It would be an important opportunity to demonstrate his versatility, which would pleasantly surprise the fans. The audience already associates him with someone who portrays elegance, charisma, and warmth. Seeing him adopt a colder posture or harsher facial expressions could make his villainous turn more impactful simply because it defies those expectations.  

This would also be his chance to break free from the typecasting quite early in his acting career. Playing a convincing villain would signal that he is capable of diverse roles, which would broaden perceptions of the filmmakers about him before taking him in a wider variety of projects.
