We have seen Jessica Chastain films, but this time, her new horror movie is different. Other Mommy‘s trailer was released a few days back, but this one is unlike any other thing she has done before.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Other Mommy trailer was played at the screenings of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey (2026) from Universal. Other Mommy’s distribution is also handled by Universal.
The film is an adaptation of the New York Times bestselling novel Incidents Around the House, authored by Josh Malerman. Rob Savage (Host, The Boogeyman) is directing from a screenplay by Nathan Elston (Succession).
Blumhouse Atomic Monster’s James Wan is producing the pic with Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Josh Malerman, and Ryan Lewis serving as executive producers.
Plot details of Other Mommy (2026)
Other Mommy is about Bela (Arabella Olivia Clark), an 8-year-old girl living in a home where her parents are facing marital problems. She encounters a sinister entity who looks and talks just like her original mommy and names her “Other Mommy” (Jessica Chastain).

Rob Savage is a modern English filmmaker who is known for Host (2020), Dashcam (2021), and The Boogeyman (2023). He loves high-tension horror and innovative screen life formats with strong performances portraying emotional grief.
Other Mommy seems to be leaning heavily on the same foundations, as he wants to capture a terrifying, childlike perspective of domestic trauma that turns a fragile household into a living nightmare. How the affected child’s psychological confusions blur the lines of her reality and how ordinary household spaces become a constant torment are the main highlights of the film.
His previous work links us with the same elements that he has explored before, like grief-driven drama with supernatural terrors and their connection to emotional trauma. The realistic processing of loss is evident, along with the help of negative space as a psychological threat.

Rather than confronting a monster, Chastain becomes one. The trailer blurs the line between a loving mother and an inhuman predator, which roots the real horror: whether the real mother or the monstrous imitation is standing in front of an 8-year-old girl.
This also makes Chastain’s role special, as she is playing dual roles: a loving mother and a supernatural entity that doesn’t want to spare anyone. She is portraying both the family’s anchor and the entity threatening to destroy it. That duality allows the film to explore identity and trust and maternal instinct in ways her previous horror projects never attempted.
