After Netflix’s failed attempt to acquire Warner Bros., Paramount Skydance has become the top bidder, pending regulatory approval.
Prior to the merger, Warner Bros planned to keep 12-14 theatrical releases as a yearly target for its four key labels: Warner Bros. Pictures, DC Studios, New Line Cinema, and Warner Bros. Animation. Paramount CEO David Ellison has confirmed that once the merger is completed, Warner Bros. will release 15 films in theaters annually, while Paramount will contribute another 15, according to JoBlo.
Regardless of the outcome, significant changes in the release calendar may result from the merger, potentially affecting both production timelines and release dates. Here’s a look at the major Warner Bros. movies currently slated for release between 2026 and 2028, though some titles may see adjustments.
34 Upcoming Warner Bros. movies
At the time of writing, Wuthering Heights and The Bride! have already been released this year. Hence, the remaining titles include:
They Will Kill You (March 27, 2026)
This horror-comedy film has Zazie Beetz in the lead, playing a young woman who thinks she might have hit a jackpot after getting a well-paid housekeeping job in a grand New York high-rise. Later, she discovers that the place is ruled by a satanic cult and she is adamant to fight the barbarous residents back. The film is gearing up for a March 27, 2026, release.
Lee Cronin’s The Mummy (April 17, 2026)
Lee Cronin’s The Mummy is described as a hybrid of Poltergeist and Se7en, as a journalist’s daughter goes missing in a desert but reappears after eight years. The reunion is not a pleasant one since the daughter has changed dreadfully. The reimagining is not connected to the 1999 action-adventure franchise starring Brendan Fraser or the 2017 film with Tom Cruise.
Mortal Kombat II (May 8, 2026)
Karl Urban is debuting with Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 2, directed by Simon McQuoid. The film takes place after the events of Mortal Kombat (2021), and it’s bigger and wilder, according to the director. The film will hit the big screen on May 8, 2026.
Supergirl (June 26, 2026)
Supergirl teaser showed a young Kara Zor-El, Superman’s cousin, forced to fight intergalactic battles while also seeking vengeance for her father’s murder. Kara is hardened and less smitten with humanity than her famous cousin. Directed by Craig Gillespie, the film will have a theatrical opening on June 26, 2026.
Evil Dead Burn (July 24, 2026)
The next Evil Dead installment has wrapped production and is ready for a summer 2026 release. Following the 2023’s Evil Dead Rise, which was a standalone project directed by Lee Cronin, Burn will have a connected universe and feature new characters and storyline. The plot remains a mystery for now.
Digger (October 2, 2026)
Orchestrated by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, the dark comedic film stars Tom Cruise, portraying the world’s most powerful man trying to avert a disaster he had caused. How this humanity saviour got caught up in such a mess will only be revealed upon the official trailer’s release. The film will come to cinemas on October 2, 2026.
Clayface (October 23, 2026)
DC Studios’ body horror film, Clayface, is directed by James Watkins and written by Mike Flanagan. The film confirmed Tom Rhys Harries as the titular character, scheduled for release on October 23, 2026. The story will have a Gothan actor, Matt Hagen, who hopes to make it in Hollywood, but due to an unfortunate incident, he transforms into a shape-shifting monster.
Dune: Part Three (December 18, 2026)
Picking up 12 years after Part Two with Paul Atreides as Emperor, Dune: Part Three will show Paul struggling with the catastrophic, holy war carried out in his name. There will be rebellion and hostilities inside the palace alongside the war. The film’s theatrical release is planned for December 18, 2026- on a box-office collision course with Avengers: Doomsday.
Godzilla x Kong: Supernova (March 26, 2027)
The two titular Titans will work as allies and not rivals in the upcoming film, where the two monsters will have to face another “space-level threat”. As the name suggests, the story may involve a cosmic extraterrestrial creature, and a new kind of Titan, likely to be a planet-ending menace.
Man of Tomorrow (July 9, 2027)
Man of Tomorrow is set to release on July 9, 2027, soon after Supergirl (2026). Gunn aims to release it before Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II. The story tease implies a relationship between two main characters: Superman and Lex Luthor, teaming up against a bigger threat. It will not be a typical hero-versus-villain story and will be much more complex.
Minecraft 2 (July 23, 2027)
The returning director, Jared Hess, will expand the blocky world of Minecraft in the sequel to The Minecraft Movie (2025), which is arriving in theatres on July 23, 2027. With limitless creative possibilities across countless creatures and realms, a new story is set to come to life as Warner Bros. plans to solidify it as a sustainable family franchise.
Shiver (August 13, 2027)
Keanu Reeves stars in the upcoming sci-fi project helmed by Deadpool (2016) director Tim Miller. Plot details are still under wraps for Shiver, but industry chatter hints at a shady smuggler caught in a ruthless double-cross scheme in the Caribbean. Time loop, hostile mercenaries, and barbaric killers will be the highlights of the narrative.
The Conjuring: First Communion (September 10, 2027)
Despite promoting The Conjuring: Last Rites (2025) as the final film of the Conjuring-verse, a Conjuring prequel film is reportedly in the works. New Line Cinema CCO Richard Brener confirmed that it was the conclusion of “phase one” and phase two will begin with First Communion, focusing on the early ghost-hunting days of Ed and Lorraine, featuring younger cast members.
The Batman: Part II (October 1, 2027)
The sequel to Robert Pattinson’s The Batman (2022) is directed by Matt Reeves and is scheduled for a theatrical release on October 1, 2027. It will follow the aftermath of the Riddler’s flooding of Gotham, suggesting a “darker and sadder” plot as the city’s grey atmosphere will be the central focus.
The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum (December 17, 2027)
Set between The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring, the film is helmed by Andy Serkis, who is also playing Gollum. The plot follows Gandalf giving Aragorn the task to track Gollum so that the One Ring’s location is kept hidden from Sauron.
Dynamic Duo (June 30, 2028)
Dynamic Duo is an interesting DC Elseworld animated film that will use animation, puppetry, and CGI, focusing on the origin stories of the Robin characters Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. The animation will be done by Louisiana-based animation studio Swaybox, which announced an audition for animators on the film on Instagram.
The Brave and the Bold (2028)
Directed by the It film’s Andy Muschietti, the film is not connected to Robert Pattinson’s The Batman Part II. It will be a father-son story of Batman and Robin. The story is expected to revolve around Bruce Wayne’s discovery of his son with Talia al Ghul. His son, Damian Wayne, aka Robin, is a murderous teen raised by assassins.
Heat 2 (TBA)
The original Heat was released in 1995, starring Al Pacino and Robert De Niro, and received critical acclaim and is widely considered one of the best crime films. Michael Mann will return to direct the follow-up, which has so far confirmed Christian Bale and Leonardo DiCaprio in the cast. The plot is not confirmed yet, but it is known that Mann released his debut novel Heat 2 in 2022, and the sequel adaptation will be a homage.
Constantine 2 (TBA)
James Gunn has wanted to do a Constantine sequel with Keanu Reeves for quite some time, and we cannot wait to see the 2005 film’s exorcist and occult detective light up his cigarette. Plot details and release date are not disclosed, but The Matrix star explained that Constantine will “be tortured even more.”
Mad Max: The Wasteland (TBA)
What is expected to be a bleak and gritty instalment, Mad Max: The Wasteland will be a standalone sequel, highlighting Max Rockatansky. As it will show the events taking place after Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), the backstory of Max’s survival and his iconic V8 Interceptor will remain the primary narrative concern.
It should be noted that the project is intended to be distributed by Warner Bros, but due to poor box office performance of Furiosa and previous legal disputes between director George Miller and the studio, the project is currently in limbo, with reports suggesting it may be reworked into a television series. If anything of that sort happens, Movie Insiderz will be the first to report. Keep an eye out!

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 4 (TBA)
While the five-film series is still on hold by Warner Bros, it is currently not in active development. Several reports indicate a fourth film is still in doubt. As a reminder, the third film ended with the blood pact between Dukbeldore and Grindelwald broken. If the fourth film happens,s it would likely show Grindelwald gathering more power in hiding.
Swamp Thing (TBA)
After taking over the reins of DC Studios, Peter Safran and James Gunn have been serious about Swamp Thing, which will be part of “Chapter 1: Gods &Monsters.” The project will be a “very dark horror” and a standalone gothic film. It specylated that the dark origins of the character will be explored, which will connect to the wider DCU narrative. James Mangold will write and direct the film, but is making slow progress at the moment, as Mangold is involved in other projects. Gunn declared that the film is still alive and will be tonally distinct.
Jonny Quest live-action (TBA)
Warner Bros tapped The Lego Batman movie director Chris McKay to direct a live-action feature on Hanna-Barbera’s animated series Jonny Quest. The project has been in development for a year and is assumed to be big in scope. We have known that the core team of the Jonny Quest cartoon will be present in the film.
ThunderCats live-action (TBA)
Warner Bros. appears to be on a streak of turning popular cartoons into live-action films. Another project in the lineup is ThunderCats, which will be directed by Adam Wingard. The film is expected to be a hybrid of CGI and live-action, but Wingard plans to stay true to 1980s aesthetics.
